Zamfara APC: Emerging Faction, the future of APC and the forthcoming Renewed Hope Rally
The All Progressives Congress (APC) under former Governor Matawalle was thriving, delivering the dividends of a formidable and people-oriented manifesto. However, in the wee hours of the 2023 gubernatorial elections, Senator Marafa and his cohorts betrayed and sold out the party for selfish interests. This internal crisis contributed to the APC losing the state to the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the last gubernatorial elections. Observers note that, regardless of differing political views and interests, the actions of Marafa and his faction are seen as a deliberate attempt to undermine the efforts of former Zamfara State Governor and current Minister of State for Defense, who has been at the forefront of tackling insecurity issues both in Zamfara and across the country. Critics describe these actions as “giving a dog a bad name in order to kill it,” suggesting that the faction is undermining the former governor’s relentless efforts for personal gain.
As the APC in Zamfara grapples with these internal conflicts, the path to restoring unity and stability within the party remains uncertain.
