YULETIDE: IMO CPC WARNS TRADERS AGAINST UNDER-MEASURED BAGS OF RICE
The Imo State Consumer Protection Council (CPC) has warned traders in the state against the sale and distribution of under measured bags of rice.
The Director General of the agency, Hon. Mrs Obioma Okafor gave this warning during a chat with news men in Owerri, the capital of Imo state.
The DG Imo CPC noted that some traders have formed the habit of selling under-measured bags of rice in order to make more money at the detriment of the unsuspecting consumers. She further stated that a standard bag of rice is supposed to weigh up to 50kg in measurement and anything less than that, amounts to fraud or cheating, which is against the consumer’s right to have value for his/her money.
She advised consumers to be vigilant and report anyone selling under-measured bags of rice or beans to the council. “Consumers in imo state must learn to demand their rights, report to imo CPC whenever they are shortchanged”.
According to her, the council will not take it lightly with anyone selling or distributing under measured bags of rice or beans especially now that the prices of food items are going higher every day.
