You’re Not Concerned About Fixing Nigerian Roads; No Plan For Us, You Focus On Less Priority Issues, Reps Committee Tells Works Minister, Umahi
“I am worried that you’re not concerned about fixing Nigeria roads,” Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Hon. Remi Oseni told the Ministry of Works.
The House of Representatives has sounded the alarm on the deplorable state of Nigeria’s road infrastructure, urging the Ministry of Works to take swift action to address the issue.
“I am worried that you’re not concerned about fixing Nigeria roads,” Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Hon. Remi Oseni told the Ministry of Works.
Oseni who represents Ido – Ibarapa East, Oyo State in the green chamber stated this during a meeting with the FERMA and the Minister of Works in Abuja, Dave Umahi, who was represented by Mr. Bede Obiora, Director Bridges and Design.
In a viral video, the lawmaker is heard saying, “You are not here to tell us what we already in the area of resources. So if you are telling us the reason why you have failed in fixing our road infrastructure is because of resources, don’t let me take you up there because you concentrated your energy as a minister on less priority issues.
“Don’t discuss resources, I say it again. All the roads that we have across the country have failed. If you are addressing these existing roads with the resources you have, Sir, Honourable Minister, we will not be where we are. Don’t discuss resources, I say it again.
“You came here last year, you got N300 billion supplementary budgetary approval. Don’t raise my emotion, I am worried that you are not concerned about fixing Nigerian roads. We are not here for business, whether you want to do the job or you don’t want to do the job. Stop telling us you are awarding roads, we don’t want you to be awarding roads that you are not ready to do.
“How can you be telling us that there is no resources, in less than one minute, form everything that everybody has said, it is a clue that you have no plan for us as a nation. I was wondering what was used as benchmark for your appraisal.”
“You have been an absolute failure as Works Minister. I wonder what appraisal was used to retain you. Do not ever complain about resources again. Don’t make me get mad at you.”
