You lied, you only regret the demands of running with Atiku – Shehu Sani tells Okowa
Nigerian Senator Shehu Sani has registered his feelings about Ifeanyi Okowa’s thoughts on serving as Atiku’s running mate in the 2023 presidential race.
The senator took to his X account to air his view. He stated that he feels the ex-Delta governor feels the way he does when he recalls the expenses he made during the electoral process.
Netizens in their usual pattern went down to his comment section to bash both Okowa and Sani. Many have queried Sani asking if the money Okowa spent was his personal money. A user, @temi_goodenough mocked Okowa, noting that his sins are now pardoned since he has joined the APC. Another user called out Okowa for referring to himself a non-Igbo, but rushed out to grab the opportunity of serving as Atiku’s vice when the former flag bearer needed an Igbo VP. The user @Ifeanyibaron also added that after Okowa had squandered Delta State’s funds, he has come out to make hate statements all because he joined APC.
Meanwhile, Senator Shehu Sani’s comment comes as a response to Ifeanyi Okowa’s statement about regretting running with Atiku. Reports have it that during an interview with Arise news, Okowa told the media that he felt regret for working with Atiku in the 2023 election. This feeling, according to the ex-governor, comes from a place of doing what he states may have been against the wishes of the Deltans.
The new APC convert noted that attaining the status with Atiku had cost him something politically. He asserted that during the campaign periods, he observed that Deltans were not keen about having neither leader from the Northern region. He however had to remain in the game because the nomination that put him in that position came straight from the Federal arm of the party.

Dr. Ifeanyi also noted that he should have stood and acknowledged his people’s feelings and stood with them. Not standing with his people cost him the opportunity to sweep the polls during the previous presidential polls, causing his then party to lose. He also added that while he was being a party loyalist, southerners were concerned that producing a new president would deliver on his campaign promises.
Additionally, the ex-governor quickly added that the tides seem to have turned as the PDP cleared out the polls about 21 local government areas in the list of the 25 LGAs the state has. The ex-governor defined the situation as a show of his people’s confidence in him.
When asked about the rumour that he defected to the APC to receive pardon for his sin, Ifeanyi disclosed that there can only be forgiveness where there is sin. As far as he is concerned, the former PDP member confirmed that he hadn’t sinned, therefore doesn’t need any form of forgiveness. He also revealed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission never arrested him.
To his statement during the interview, citizens have taken to social media to air their views. While many noted that he took a wrong turn by merging with Atiku and discarding the trust Wike had in him, some others called him out for joining APC.
