Why PDP Is Secretly Planning To Install Officials Across The State
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed concern over what it described as a plan by the state government to install officials elected in the February 21 local government elections into council secretariats across the state.
Speaking to journalists in Osogbo, a former commissioner for information in the state, Sunday Akere, said the move could lead to unrest.
He claimed that the government, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, may rely on a court order to implement the plan.
Akere, alongside other former government officials, alleged that a judgment is being sought at the Osun State High Court sitting in Ikirun on April 17, which could enable the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmen to take control of the local councils.
He further claimed that this may be enforced with the support of security outfits and individuals he referred to as “hoodlums.”
In response, the spokesperson to the governor, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the APC’s claims.
He stated that the opposition party is currently involved in three court cases concerning the control of local government offices.
Rasheed accused the APC of attempting to divert attention from legal issues surrounding the occupancy of the secretariats.
According to him, Governor Adeleke has not initiated any court case regarding the matter but has instead urged all parties to adhere to the law and avoid confrontation.
Despite the back-and-forth, Akere maintained that any attempt to enforce the PDP officials’ entry into council secretariats could spark tension, reiterating the APC’s position that the secretariats are presently managed by court-reinstated officials from their party.
The APC also noted that it had petitioned the National Judicial Council over what it described as irregularities in the judicial process allegedly supported by the current administration.
Meanwhile, Rasheed has urged the APC to pursue its legal matters peacefully and avoid any form of incitement.
