*IN DEFENSE OF DEMOCRACY*
*_WHY LUCKY AYEDATIWA MUST RESPECT THE RULE OF LAW_*
*“The man dies in all who keep silent in the face of tyranny.” – Wole Soyinka*
Yesterday, the need to rise in defense of our nascent democracy became imperative. The attempt by the Deputy Governor to desecrate our sacred Chambers necessitated men of good conscience to rise to the call of duty.
Democracy is not a perfect system, yet among all we chose this for the protection of our inalienable rights. And we do this with pride.
The institution of the state assembly, like I said yesterday, remains the sacred House and the House of the people. The attempt to undermine it by any politician or person is no less than a treasonable offense.
Armed with the conviction as reiterated by Abigail Adams ( 1775), “The Spirit that prevails among Men of all degrees, all ages and sexes is the Spirit of Liberty.” This constitutional liberty of the house was attacked in its very marrow by men of low characters.
It is alarming and ridiculous that anyone can contemplate that in a 21st century, not even someone so blessed and fortunate to attain an esteemed office as the Deputy Governor of our dear State, will subtly support terror. To perpetrate self in office by hook or crook.
The action is not far from a similar Gestapo approach of the 44th President of America, Donald J. Trump, where his supporters stormed Capitol Hill on January 6, with the intention to stop a democratic ritual of the Electoral college to certify the votes.
What was attempted in our dear State by a few ill motivated fellow handpicked was an act similar to insurrection and far affirms greater misconduct. It must not be allowed. Never again, should there be such misgivings.
Let it be echoed across the seas and in the land where men of honor exist, that where liberty dwells, that is where my countryhome-our dear Sunshine State must be. The liberty of the people’s House can never be encroached.
The machineries provided the rhetorics of the ugly scenes of “Omoboriowo” v. Ajasin to perpetrate fear and terror on our people.
Looking at their numerical strength, in their tens, one would say without mincing words that they were just puns in the chess game of a desperate politician.
The embattled deputy governor could not even reign on them that such is not the hallmark of democracy. Despots must not wear agbada with Khaki mentality to brutalize the innocence of our people.
It is no less an attempt, by the Deputy Governor to weaponize poverty. The current economic comatose and decline in growth worldwide is not peculiar to Nigeria alone. Europe currently faces serious inflation crises threatening their collective existence. The world is in dire times, and no one with good conscience should dare to weaponize poverty. It is an act of shamelessness.
May I, therefore, as a concerned youth and citizen advise Mr. Deputy, Lucky Ayedatiwa now christened Omboriowo (“Democracy is a slow process of stumbling to the right decision instead of going straight forward to the wrong one.”) It is not attained through violent insurrection. Desperacy has no bearing in our history and trajectory as a peaceful and united state in the Niger Delta region.
The good people of Ondo State are proud of its Hallow Chambers for standing firm and resolute with the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria as amended. It is crystal clear that the constitution in its wisdom had envisaged, that men of desperate tendencies will seek to unsurp it someday for personal gains. No wonder it conceived, *”If any other law is inconsistent with the provisions of this Constitution, this Constitution shall prevail, and that other law shall, to the extent of the inconsistency, be void” Section 1 sub 3.*
In conclusion, the people of Ondo State are hereby placed on high alert against sit tight patriots and despotic tendencies in defense of our democracy. The People’s House must carry out its legitimate business without fear or hindrance from “sit-tight patriots” calling for war for their alleged gross misconduct.
