Why Nollywood Can’t Support Many Newcomers – Enioluwa opens up
In the American movie industry (Hollywood), actors typically appear in between 1 to 5 productions in a calendar year. Someone like Angelina Jolie for example, or Leonardo DiCaprio doesn’t need to appear in many movies to still remain as relevant or as financially stable as they already are. But over here in Nigeria, that is not the case yet.
Right now, one of the feelings that fans of Nigerian movie productions are expressing, is that they are tired of seeing the same faces in different movie productions — and the feeling is warranted. Over the course of a year, actors can appear in over 10, 20, sometimes even 30 productions or more, playing different types of roles. They have to, in order to remain relevant, and also remain getting paid.
Now, newly minted actor and content creator Enioluwa is opening up more about this phenomenon through his social media platform. Here is what Enioluwa had to say, for the reason why newcomers aren’t as supported as people would like in Nollywood. Here’s what he said.

Taking to social media to address why we keep seeing the same faces in Nigerian films, and also opening up about why Nollywood can’t support as many new faces as people expect, Enioluwa wrote saying:
ENIOLUWA: People often say they’re tired of seeing the same faces in Nigerian films.
However, unlike in Hollywood, actors in Nigeria can’t afford to do just one film a year— how much are they paying.
The industry currently can’t support as many newcomers as people might expect because, realistically, many of them wouldn’t be able to meet even their basic needs. No one wants to be famous and financially unstable.
We don’t have the buying power yet, it’s growing because streaming platforms have come in and people have made more records in the box office.
Nevertheless you can’t equate it to Hollywood, an Avengers that made over $2 billion that can pay its actors millions of dollars and still have enough profit.
