Former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau has announced his exit from his new-found New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

According to him, the reason he left the NNPP was because his supporters couldn’t get nomination papers to further their political aspirations within the organisation.

Shekarau left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the NNPP and is currently the senatorial representative for Kano Central.

Shekarau declared to a group of supporters yesterday at the Kano Foundation Office on BUK Road, “I am done with NNPP.”

Shekarau did not, however, reveal his upcoming political move, but the APC’s base was ecstatic anyway.

Shekarau might rejoin the APC, a source told The Nation.

Shekarau charged Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the founder of the NNPP and his predecessor at the Kano Government House, with “betraying and humiliating” him.

Speaking about what happened between him and Kwankwaso during his brief tenure in the NNPP, Shekarau expressed shock at being the only person to receive a form to run for senator without taking in his throngs of followers.

He stated: “I personally saw Kwankwaso in his country home on May 5, 2022, long before I joined Kwankwaso in the NNPP. We spoke extensively about my decisions to follow him to his new party, and he showed deep satisfaction.
