Why I Attempted Suicide At Lagos Lagoon – Nigerian Socialite And Owner Of House Of Phreedah, Farida
Prominent socialite in Lagos State, Farida Abdulkadir Sobowale, who owns the House of Phreedah Bodycare and Spa, has opened up about her recent suicide attempt, attributing it to a combination of factors including frustration, a failed marriage, and other challenges.
Earlier, it had been reported that Farida was rescued by Lagos residents when she tried to commit suicide by jumping into a lagoon from a bridge on Thursday.
She had driven her Lexus SUV to the bridge extension, seemingly with the intention to jump into the lagoon, but was thankfully stopped by bystanders.
In a video circulating on social media, the distressed Lagos socialite, dressed in black attire, can be seen being restrained by concerned individuals who prevented her from carrying out her attempt.
In a subsequent viral video, Farida clarified that her struggles, which included a failed marriage and accumulated frustrations, had driven her to the brink of taking her own life. She shared that her marriage to Lagos socialite Demola Okulaja, which had been celebrated lavishly in a wedding reportedly costing N100 million just two months prior, had recently ended in separation.
Reflecting on her situation, Farida acknowledged that friends and family had cautioned her against entering the marriage, warning that her husband was primarily interested in her financial resources. Despite these concerns, she proceeded with the marriage, only to find herself in a situation of disillusionment and despair after her husband left her.
In her emotional statement, she expressed regret for the pain her actions may have caused her children and admitted that she would not have forgiven herself if she had abandoned them by committing suicide
