We Must Unite And Fight In South-West – Sunday Igboho Condemns Influx Of Terrorists Into Oyo, Others

Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, more commonly known as Sunday Igboho, has expressed concerns over the rising insecurity in the South-West region of Nigeria, citing the influx of Fulani herdsmen to Oyo State, as a major threat to farming and food security.
Igboho lamented that many farmers had abandoned their farms due to repeated attacks by herdsmen.
He noted that this had significantly driven up the cost of food in the market, exacerbating economic challenges for the region’s residents.
According to him, the attacks on farmers by herdsmen have prevented many from cultivating their land, leading to food shortages and higher prices.
Igboho also criticised Nigerian leaders for remaining silent on the growing insecurity, accusing them of failing to address the challenges facing the region.
He decried the rampant kidnappings along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and other part of Southwest where herdsmen reportedly demand millions of naira in ransom.
He said that people could no longer travel safely, whether during the day or night.
Igboho added that many in the diaspora are afraid to return home because of the fear of being kidnapped.
The activist called on the Yoruba people to unite in the fight against insecurity, stating the need to protect the future of the next generation.
He urged immediate action to restore safety and stability across the region.
According to Igboho, “Our fathers can no longer go to their farms. Everything has skyrocketed, the cost of living is too high, and if our mothers, who also farm, go to the fields, they are attacked and raped by Fulani herdsmen.
“No one is safe anymore. Some years ago, when we were growing up, we could sleep outside in front of our fathers’ houses. I could wake up at 3am, head to the farm, and no one would harm me.
“No one can try such things. If you plan to travel from Lagos to Ibadan, it becomes a challenge. Once you pass the tollgate, gunmen are waiting for you. The Fulani are there to kidnap you and demand millions as ransom.
“It’s unfortunate that our leaders are indifferent to our plight. They have failed to provide us with adequate security,” he stated.
He said, “Our people in the diaspora are afraid to return home because of the insecurity. They fear being kidnapped. It shouldn’t be this way.
“We need to unite and fight for our rights. There’s no security in the southwest. I urge everyone to come together. We don’t need to fight ourselves. If someone complains that the country is bad, why can’t we call the person and discuss the issues to find solutions?”
“Between you and me, do you believe Nigeria is secure? You who insult me, claiming I’m seeking patronage or looking for something to gain — can you walk freely at night? Can you wear dreadlocks or drive an expensive car without being harassed by the police, accused of being a Yahoo boy?,” Igboho added.
