Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has raised concerns about some unnamed politicians plotting to hijack the August 1 protest with the intent of causing disruption in the state.
Speaking on Wednesday, Yusuf stated that his administration has discovered plans by certain selfish politicians to use the protest as a cover to create chaos.
“We are ready to receive protesters for a peaceful dialogue in the Government House. I will not run away, let them bring their positions and I will go with my stakeholders to President Tinubu and present our position to him,” the governor said.
He urged the Federal Government to promptly review the prices of fuel and electricity and to reopen the borders to facilitate the importation of goods into the country.
Yusuf also called on the government to reduce the cost of essential commodities and services to ease the burden on Nigerians.
“Let me remind that when we came on board we spent time to ensure that peace that had been previously eroded in the state was returned.
“We have uncovered moves by some disgruntled elements and politicians to purchase red caps and distribute them among thugs to use during the protest, which could lead to looting and the harm of innocent people,” he said.
The governor announced plans to establish a price control office in the state to ensure price stability and uniformity for goods.
He emphasised that his administration is committed to improving the quality of life for ordinary citizens and has reinstated Public Suggestion Boxes to gather direct feedback from the people.
