UNPROVOKED THREAT TO LIFE: THE HON. OLUSEGUN AIYERIN STORY.
January 21, 2024 was a quiet Sunday as usual when Pastor Olusegun Aiyerin, a top most APC chieftain hosted APC Ilutitun Ward 1 Exco & other top leaders to an end of year/new year celebration at his College Road, Ilupeju residence. The scheduled meeting had commenced in Hon Aiyerin’s conference room by 4:30pm and the hitherto peaceful meeting suddenly disrupted by a group of suspected cultists & thugs who invaded the venue without any qualms about the direct consequences of their actions.
The openly hostile and very aggressive group ed by Tosin Ayebusiwa with others identified as Femi Olawoye, PA to Hon. Chris Ayebusiwa and Adeola Ayebogbon (both hired from far away Erekiti & Ikoya towns respectively), Ayo Olowokunlepe and two others forcefully made their way into the venue at around 5:30pm. Tosin Ayebusiwa, their leader aggressively challenged the ward chairman, Mr. Ojuri Omojuwa to give reasons why he failed to invite their paymaster, Hon. Chris Ayebusiwa to the meeting. Tosin had vehemently refused to listen to the explanation offered by the chairman who informed him that he had personally contacted Hon. Chris Ayebusiwa on phone to update him about the planned meeting.
The obviously hostile Tosin & his cohort were too busy insulting, abusing, threatening & harassing other notable leaders present at the meeting to listen to any sort of supplication. The ensuing pandemonium that was needlessly created led to roughly half of the attendees fleeing the venue in fear for their dear lives.
When the meeting finally reconvened about one hour later with the group having taken their leave after believing they had achieved their major objective, it came as a rude shock to see the gang repeating the same scene of harassment and insult-driven expletives at a time food and other refreshments were to be served, going on a destructive rampage, damaging serving plates & food coolers, chairs and pulling down two doors leading to the kitchen area. At that juncture it became obvious that the group had been on surveillance.with the aim of monitoring the goings-on at the meeting.
The invasion of the venue and subsequent destruction of personal property by the group was clearly beyond politics as they looked determined to disrupt, harass, maim and assault the host and attendees. The incident had since been formally reported to the Ilutitun Police Station at around 9:00 pm same day. Due to this incident, Hon Olusegun Aiyerin has sent a petition with all attached pictorial evidences of the damage to the Commissioner of Police requesting for police protection after coming to the conclusion that his life is in danger.
It was thus with a huge sense of relief when news filtered in that the notorious gang has been apprehended by the Anti-Cultism Unit in Akure, the arrest, interrogation & detention of which will hopefully help to put a stop to such incidents in that axis in future.
It is to be recalled that late Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN CON of blessed memory, had in 2016 made serious overtures to Hon. Aiyerin to resign as Commissioner for Agriculture with the PDP to join the APC in order to strengthen his (Aketi’s) party towards winning Okitipupa Local Government & Ondo South district which are known to be the strongest support base of the PDP.
Obviously keying into what Aketi had to offer, Hon Aiyerin joined APC in 2016, worked assiduously, in helping to win the gubernatorial elections in 2016 & 2020.
However, not only did the late Governor renege on all his promises to Hon. Aiyerin, but allegedly pushed Hon. Aiyerin out of reckoning regarding party activities & the expected patronages for over six years.
This “use & dump” philosophy and series of broken promises
culminated intofrustration that inevitably led to Hon. Olusegun Aiyerin resigning from the party vide a letter dated 3rd February 2023.
However, notable party leaders from ward, Local Government, state & national levels intervened & prevailed on him to return to the party which led to him rejoining the party four months later vide another letter dated 16th June, 2023.
It is worthy of note that several accolades which greeted the above two monumental decisions are still coming in from those party leaders.
In a bid to prevent the recent incident from degenerating into a serious intra-party debacle, some respected opinion leaders, elders & monarchs are believed to presently be wading into the issue with a view to settling same in-house.
For now, only time can tell what the outcome of such well-meaning moves would be.
