In a letter dated April 11 and obtained by SaharaReporters on Tuesday, the university formally informed Okemili of his admission withdrawal and warned him to stay away from campus.

The management of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, has revoked the provisional admission of Mr. Felix Ifesinachi Okemili, popularly known as Jango, a former Senior Special Assistant on Internal Security to Governor Francis Nwifuru.

Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that Jango was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abakaliki.

His arrest on Sunday, April 13, 2025, follows serious allegations of cultism and corruption, SaharaReporters has learned.

Okemili’s alleged involvement in cult-related activities dates back to his time at Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo, where he was reportedly expelled for cultism. Despite this, he climbed the political ranks, first serving as Director of Protocols to the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and later appointed as SSA on Internal Security by Governor Nwifuru in 2023.

In a letter dated April 11 and obtained by SaharaReporters on Tuesday, the university formally informed Okemili of his admission withdrawal and warned him to stay away from campus.

Signed by Registrar/Secretary to Council, Ifeanyi Igwe Esq., and copied to all university officials, the letter is titled: “RE: Allegation of Cult-Related Behaviour and Withdrawal of Admission.”

With reference AEFUNAI/R/040/VOL.VIII, the Council Secretary stated that after his disruptive behaviour, suspected to be cult-related, involving an unidentified group on the University campus on March 14, 2025—shortly after the 13th Matriculation ceremony—the University Management established a Committee to investigate the alleged misconduct.

The letter read, “You appeared before the investigative panel and explained your side of the story. The Committee took note of your responses and observed as follows:

“That you were offered provisional admission to read Political Science in the University during the 2024/25 academic session.

“That you were spotted chanting songs and displaying actions and insignia suspected to be linked to a cult confraternity during the Matriculation ceremony.

“That you are yet to register fully and obtain Matriculation Number as a student of Political Science of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike.

“That the University abhors cultism and your behaviour elicited some security concerns to the University Community which was unexpected of a new student of the University.

“That your behaviour was cult related and in breach of the Matriculation Oath which you took on that day.”

It added, “In line with the report and recommendation of the Investigative Panel, the Management on behalf of Senate has directed that your admission into the University be withdrawn.

“Your admission is hereby withdrawn forthwith.

“You are therefore expected to handover every University property in your possession to the Chief Security Officer or Dean Students Affairs and stay away from the University premises/campus.

“All University functionaries are by a copy of this letter informed of this development and are expected to ensure compliance.”
