Nigerian superstar surprised everyone when she stepped out with a brand new hairdo. The “Rush” and “Bloody Samaritan” singer who is known for usually sporting long hair traded in her signature style for a much shorter do, and everybody is talking about. During a new appearance that Ayra made on the I Said What I Said podcast, the interviewers had to ask about the new hairdo. Ayra explains why she decided to cut her hair, and also explains how she deals with the insults and backlash that comes from such a big decision. Here’s what Ayra Starr had to say.

During the conversation, the interviewer said to Ayra Starr, “I love the hair! What made you move into this style?” to which Ayra said:
AYRA STARR: Thank you! I feel like I’ve been wanting to cut my hair for so long, but I kept playing it safe. I was used to a certain look and got too comfortable with it, so I wanted to switch it up—so I did! I have a big forehead; I think that’s one of the reasons too. That’s why the hair is a fringe.
“No, where is the forehead? This is not a big forehead!”
AYRA STARR: Girl, I have a big forehead. It’s just not showing.
“You know Nigerians like to insult. How do you respond to the backlash?”
AYRA STARR: Just expect the insult, man. There’s nothing you can do to stop it. Sometimes, I even premeditate it. I think, “What would they say?” Do you understand? And when they actually say it, it’s like, “Eyyy, you ate with that!” It’s even fun now. Sometimes, I’m so proud, I’m like, “I should have thought of that first! That should have been my caption. Why didn’t I think of that?”
So I’m just used to it. I feel like it’s funny ’cause I see them insult other people, and me too, I laugh. I even send it to my mom, like, “Did you see this?” in the group chat
So yeah, it’s fine.
