In a statement on Friday, Nasir Mua’zu, commissioner for internal security and home affairs, said the operations were executed on April 10 by officers of the Nigerian Army’s 17th Brigade and 213 Forward Operating Base (FOB) of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

He said the operations took place in bandit strongholds in the Mununu Bakai, Zango, Jeka Arera, Malali, and Ruwan Godiya areas of the Kankara and Faskari LGAs.

Mua’zu said Gwaska, a terror kingpin who served as “second-in-command to an ISWAP-linked leader”, was killed in an assault on Munumu Forest, where he had recently relocated.

The troops also destroyed two machine guns and locally fabricated shotguns during the operations.

Similarly, security forces also raided suspected bandit hideouts at Dutsen Wori on the outskirts of Dandume town at the border with Faskari and Sabuwa LGAs.

Six suspected bandits, including their commander, were killed in the attack, while several others escaped with various degrees of bullet wounds.

The security forces reportedly suffered no casualties in the operations.
