Top INEC official slumps, dies in Abuja
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ogun State, Barrister Olaniyi Ijalaye, has reportedly passed away, Horizon Times reports.
He reportedly slumped in Abuja on Monday evening after attending a meeting with other RECs at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters, Dockaysworld gathered.
According to sources within Ogun State INEC, Ijalaye had returned to his hotel room at Bon Octagon Hotel in Abuja after the meeting when the incident occurred.
The late REC, who was originally from Ondo State, appeared to be in good spirits during the meeting, which focused on upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States, as well as filling vacant positions in the National and State Assemblies.
Ijalaye was assigned to Ogun State in March 2022, following the transfer of his predecessor, Olusegun Agbaje, to Lagos State.
Further details regarding his sudden passing are expected to be released later.
