Performing the induction during the 8th International Conference of PSSN at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi on Friday, the President, Professor Waheed Yahya said, “The inductees were separately selected in recognition of their contributions in championing statistics through their professional callings.

“Dr Mujidat Folashade Tinubu-Ojo advocated and championed the interests and well-being of women marketers in the country which brought unquantifiable happiness to hardworking entrepreneurial women.”

He explained that “Her love for humanity and support for the vulnerable, recently propelled her to enrol over 10,000 children of common traders and less privileged Nigerians into different tertiary institutions across the country on scholarship to eliminate disparity among the children of the rich and the downtrodden.”

He commended them for defending the interest of statisticians in the country which must not go unappreciated.

Speaking on behalf of the inductees, the APC National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Basiru, called for depoliticisation of data collection in Nigeria to allow leaders to make informed decisions driven by data.

He noted, “while no country can develop meaningfully without data, PSSN must make noble advocacy engaging leaders and the media to support timely and accurate national data.”

In his goodwill message, the President-General, Yoruba Community, Bauchi State, Special Apostle Segun Awofadeji prayed that at the end of the conference, the PSSN would be able to proffer lasting solutions to the challenges across the various sectors of the nation’s economy.

Awofadeji who described the theme of this year’s conference “Statistics: The key to unlocking Nigeria’s Economic Potentials” as apt and timely, expressed optimism that the conference will come out with strategies to help unlock hidden economic potentials in the country.

He said, “Your presence here is a morale booster to all of us that Nigeria is on the path of glory, Nigerians are gradually becoming a people with the hope of a better tomorrow considering the robust plans, programs, and policies of the APC led administration under the able leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Jagaban of Nigeria.

“It may interest you to know that the Yoruba Community in Bauchi state is enjoying a robust, cordial, and good relationship with the host communities, especially under the leadership of the Governor, Senator Bala Abdukadir Mohammed (Kauran Bauchi and Jagaban Katagum) who has carried everyone along in the administration of the state.”

“The Yoruba and other nonindigenes are living and coexisting peacefully, going about their legitimate businesses and other endeavours without any fear of harassment and intimidation. The Bala Mohammed-led PDP administration has done well in promoting peaceful and hardworking coexistence”, he stated.
