Tinubu set to scrap major ministry
There are growing indications that President Bola Tinubu is set to abolish the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation as part of a broader cabinet restructuring.
This move could also involve merging or splitting other government portfolios and possibly relieving certain ministers of their duties.
Sources within the Presidency revealed that Tinubu is under pressure, both internally and externally, to address underperforming ministers in his administration.
Reports suggest that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs may be dissolved entirely, as its functions could be absorbed by other existing agencies.
The ministry, initially established by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, was tasked with coordinating humanitarian interventions, disaster management, and social welfare programs.
Despite its intended role, the ministry has faced allegations of corruption and inefficiency, most notably involving its first minister, Sadiya Farouq, and her successor, Dr. Betta Edu, who was suspended earlier this year.
As Tinubu continues to prioritize government efficiency, the final decisions on this cabinet overhaul are expected soon.
The President is also expected to make these announcements before departing for the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
