Tinubu sacks top INEC officials
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to officially sack three suspended Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The affected officials are Ike Uzochukwu (Abia), Hudu Yunusa-Ari (Adamawa), and Nura Ali (Sokoto).
The request was sent in a letter to the Senate, which was read during Wednesday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The three RECs were suspended for alleged misconduct during the 2023 general election.
According to Tinubu, the suspensions were already in place before his administration began. He urged the Senate to act on the matter quickly.
The president is also expected to submit names of new nominees for the vacant positions soon.
