Tinubu Is PDP’s Real Problem, He Had No Business Appointing Wike As Minister– Sowunmi

Segun Sowunmi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Ogun governorship candidate, has labeled President Bola Tinubu as the party’s primary challenge.
Speaking on Wednesday, Sowunmi criticized Tinubu’s decision to appoint former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“People will like to say Wike, but I will rather say President Bola Tinubu. He has no business appointing our member into his cabinet without talking to us. He had no business taking Nyesom Wike from our party and appointing him,” Sowunmi said when asked about the PDP’s main problem.

Drawing comparisons, he noted that former President Olusegun Obasanjo consulted party elders when forming a government of national unity.

Sowunmi argued that Tinubu should follow suit if he genuinely wants the PDP to remain stable, adding, “If Tinubu wanted the PDP to be okay, he would return Wike back to the opposition party.”

Addressing the internal challenges within the PDP, Sowunmi expressed optimism about the party’s future.

He dismissed notions of the party being “dead” or “sick,” describing the ongoing struggles as part of the democratic process.

“We have not gotten to a stage whereby we will say we have gotten a new (set of) executives. There are complications as to where Wike stands since he is a minister in the APC government and he is still in the PDP. These are consequences that will have to be managed. But I take very strong objections to the fact that you are explaining that the party is dead,” he said.

Despite the turbulence, Sowunmi remains confident that the PDP will navigate its current challenges and reposition itself for power.
