Thugs Backed By Government Attack Peaceful Protesters Despite Police Presence

According to the organisation, the thugs carried out the attacks while approximately 200 police officers stood by without intervening.

The Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement, a pro-democracy organisation and key organiser of the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests in Nigeria, has stated that Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State deployed political thugs to harass peaceful protesters at the Sango Underbridge.

 

According to the organisation, the thugs carried out the attacks while approximately 200 police officers stood by without intervening.

 

The Take It Back Movement on its official social media condemned the incident and warned that any forms of violence or harassment against protesters would not be accepted.

 

The organisation emphasised the importance of protecting the rights of citizens to peaceful assembly and free expression.

 

The TIB wrote: “The “Eleleyi” of Ogun state, @DapoAbiodunCON has reportedly ordered political thugs to intimidate peaceful #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters at Sango Underbridge, while over 200 police officers sit back watching. Any violence or harassment will not be tolerated.”

SaharaReporters reported on Friday, Day two of the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest, that the Damilare Adenola, the Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, had stated that the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests against economic hardship would continue until President Bola Tinubu addresses the demands of the organisers.
