Three hospitalised as motorcyclist hits churchgoers on New Year Day
A yet-to-be-identified motorcyclist has left three persons who were returning from a New Year church service hospitalised after ramming into them along the Owode-Siun road in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
PUNCH Metro learnt from a traffic update by the Commandant General of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Seni Ogunyemi, that the accidents happened at about 1:10 am on Wednesday.
Ogunyemi noted that the motorcyclist lost control as a result of speeding which caused him to ram into some pedestrians who were returning from church.
He added that three persons including two males and a female sustained serious injuries and were rescued at the Owode-Egba General Hospital.
Ogunyemi said, “Serious RTA at Ring Road, inbound Owode of Siun-Owode highway on January 1, 2025.
“The cause of the accident was excessive speed on the path of the Ladles Bike, which led to a loss of control and rammed amid the pedestrians coming from church.
“Two male adults who were occupants of the motorcycle and a female pedestrian sustained injuries. There was no death recorded.
“TRACE operatives were on the ground to rescue the victims to the Owode-Egba General Hospital through a Good Samaritan car, while police were contacted for further investigation.”
PUNCH Metro reported on Tuesday that a yet-to-be-identified driver was hospitalised following a containerised truck accident in the Gbagada area of Lagos State.
A preliminary report of the incident signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, stressed that the truck fell due to the driver’s reckless driving.
Following the fall, the driver was said to have sustained some injuries, which led to him being hospitalised.
