President Bola Tinubu has named Ola Olukoyede as the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The announcement was made by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, in a statement issued
Olukoyede’s appointment is subject to confirmation by the senate, and he is slated to serve a term of four years.
Here are some key facts about the new EFCC boss, Ola Olukoyede:
Olukoyede is originally from Ekiti State, located in the South-western region of Nigeria.
He was born on October 14, 1969, in Ikere-Ekiti.
With over twenty-two (22) years of experience, Olukoyede is a seasoned lawyer specializing in compliance management, corporate intelligence, and fraud management.
He possesses extensive familiarity with EFCC operations, having previously served as the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman from 2016 to 2018.
Ola Olukoyede is a Pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
Former President Muhammadu Buhari nominated him to serve as Secretary to the EFCC from 2018 to 2023.
In June of this year, President Tinubu suspended Abdulrasheed Bawa as the EFCC chair and appointed Abdulkarim Chukkol, who was then the director of operations, to serve in an acting capacity.
This suspension followed allegations of abuse of office leveled against Bawa, continuing a pattern of past EFCC bosses’ unceremonious removals.
