This was confirmed to SaharaReporters by his coursemates who said Idris was kidnapped last week Tuesday immediately he left the campus to travel to his home state, Zamfara.

“We finished our exams and he was going home like everybody when he was kidnapped. At first he was declared missing but later the bandits called to inform his family that he was kidnapped by them,” one of his coursemates told SaharaReporters.

He stated that the victim’s relatives and friends made tremendous efforts to ensure that the school administration and police intervened immediately, but these generated no results.

“The management is not willing to intervene because he was not kidnapped within the university community and the police are not also helping. The bandits have threatened to kill him if his family refuses to pay the sum of N2million,” the coursemate added.

SaharaReporters learnt that the frequent threats from terrorists to kill Abubakar Idris left his classmates with little choice but to start soliciting donations for his release on social media.

A circular made available to SaharaReporters on Tuesday morning reads: “Dear Friends, Colleagues and Compassionate Hearts,

“We humbly call upon your support in a time of great urgency and distress. Our dear colleague, ABUBAKAR IDRIS, a 2nd-year Dental Surgery student at Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, was tragically abducted by kidnappers on 12th November 2024 while travelling home from school along Gusau Road, Sokoto.

“Abubakar comes from a humble background, and his family is unable to meet the kidnappers’ ransom demand of 2 MILLION NAIRA. Time is critical, and we must act swiftly to secure his release and reunite him with his loved ones.

“Abubakar is a bright, hardworking, and promising young man, Let us not allow this tragedy to take away his future.

“We are appealing to all well-meaning individuals to contribute generously to this cause. No amount is too small, every naira counts toward bringing Abubakar back to safety.

“Your prayers, shares, and contributions are deeply appreciated. Together, we can make a difference and give Abubakar and his family hope in this dark time.”
