Several residents were also abducted during the invasion, SaharaReporters learnt.

Terrorists on Monday night launched a deadly attack on Morai town in the Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing a former local government sole administrator, Saminu Morai, and three others.

Several residents were also abducted during the invasion, SaharaReporters learnt.

A resident of the community who spoke with SaharaReporters confirmed the attack and described it as brutal and shocking.

“Bandit attack Morai town in Talata Mafara local government of Zamfara state, killed former Talata Mafara local government sole administrator and 3 others. Many people were kidnapped,” the source said.

He added that the attack took place late Monday night, throwing the entire town into chaos.

“The name of the administrator is Saminu Morai. The attacked happened last night,” the source explained.

The killings have since drawn the attention of traditional and local authorities, as both the Emir of Talata Mafara and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area reportedly attended the burial of the victims.

“And Emir of Talata Mafara together with DPO of Talata Mafara attended the funeral,” the source added.

SaharaReporters learned that the victims were buried in accordance with Islamic rites shortly after the attack.

As of when this report was filed, the Zamfara State Police Command has not released an official statement regarding the incident. It also remains unclear how many people were kidnapped or the exact number of assailants involved.

Zamfara State has been one of the most volatile regions in northern Nigeria, with incessant attacks by armed groups, locally referred to as bandits, who carry out killings, mass abductions, and raids on rural communities with little resistance.

Monday’s attack adds to the growing toll of casualties in a state where residents continue to live under fear and helplessness as security forces struggle to contain the menace of terrorism.
