South-East leaders under the umbrella of Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) have berated the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government over the current price hikes of fuel.

The coalition called for a nationwide protest against the recent upward review of the fuel pump price from about N500 to over N600 by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

The nationwide protest call by the South East leaders was specifically sequel to the abrupt increase in the fuel price from N537 to N617 and above.

The President General of COSEYL, Goodluck Ibem, in a statement on Wednesday described the development as “wickedness” from the authorities, lamenting the present hardship imposed on Nigerians due to the fuel subsidy removal.

The coalition further lamented that when Nigerians are “still battling with hardship to settle with the previous price of N520, President Tinubu within 2 months in office increased the same price of fuel to N617” as it is in some states.

The coalition therefore called on all Nigerians, especially the youths, to “come out enmasse for a protest against this evil and wickedness brought upon Nigerians by the present government. Nigerians can no longer breathe again in their own country

“The time to liberate Nigeria from her oppressors is now.

We must march on the streets of the 36 states of Nigeria including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja until the fuel price is reversed to its old price of N198 per litre”.
