Tension as Herdsmen machete farmer, destroy cassava farms in Akure

Palpable tension has enveloped farm settlements in parts of Akure, the Ondo state capital after a faceoff between a cassava farmer and herdsmen who used his cows to destroy large expanse of cassava farms located at Owobamigbe Farm settlement, along Ileyo Isagba Road, Akure.
The crisis started this morning when son of the farmer met some herders at the farm uprooting cassava to feed their cows and an attempt by him to stop the ugly act made the herdsmen to macheted him, inflicting various degrees of injury on him before he rescued from the scene by other farmers.

Confirming the incident to our heritage reporter, one of the farmers, Mr Michael Abiodun, said villagers had started leaving the area for the fear of further attacks by the herdsmen.

Abiodun said they are not going to sleep in their Hamlets for now because anytime they have issues with herdsmen, they would always come back at night to attack them.
The farmer pleaded with men of the Nigeria Police and Amotekun corps to come to their rescue and beef up security in the area to prevent bloodshed.

He lamented that the herders had destroyed their source of livelihood.
