Taskforce arrests 500 suspects, recovers N300m illicit substance in Kano
The Kano State Taskforce on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has apprehended about 500 suspected criminals who engaged in various thuggery and drug-related activities in the state.

The force committee constituted by the state government comprised the Police, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Correctional Service, Immigration, Vigilante, and other government functionaries.

Chairman of the committee, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim, disclosed the arrest at a security stakeholders engagement held on Sunday.

Ibrahim, who doubles as Commissioner for Science and Technology, noted that the committee has intensified efforts to curtail varying menace in the state.

He said the committee has identified dangerous spots and criminal hideouts in several communities within the eight metropolitan council areas of the state.

He called on the community leaders to support the committee to improve the safety of lives and properties.

Ibrahim noted that the security stakeholders meeting was critical in fostering peace and tranquility in the state.

The Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam, while commending the successes of the committee said, the establishment of the taskforce committee was a testament to the government’s resolve to tackle the security challenges facing the state.

Also speaking, the Kano State Commissioner of Police CP Ibrahim Bakori said, the synergy among the security agencies has yielded results through intelligence-led operations.

He appealed to the state government to establish a special court to try and prosecute thugs, phone snatchers, and drug dealers.

NDLEA commander in Kano, Abubakar Idris, commended the synergy among the security agencies in their operations and called for continuity to curb security challenges.
