The immediate past Commissioner for environment in Imo state Dr. Ikye Njoku over the weekend urged the civil servants in Imo state to do everything in their power to support Governor Hope Uzodimma in his journey to Rehabilitate Reconstruct and Recover Imo state from it lost glory.
The renowned medical laboratory scientist cum seasoned politician, made this assertion during the Aboh mbaise APC meeting held recently in his home town over the weekend.
According to him, the overall functions of civil servants in helping government can not be over emphasized, hence the governor is doing everything in his powers to pay them as of when due.
He charged them, not to leave everything in the hand of government but help Governor Hope Uzodimma on his journey to transform the civil servants for effective service delivery and smooth running of the government, he affirmed that, engine power of any government is the civil servants.
Going further, he said every Imolite can see what the Uzodimma painting hand on the quality of the roads and roundabouts being constructed across the stat.
” We are no longer talking about roundabouts and hold-ups,check the number of youths that have been empowered with two hundred and fifty thousand Naira,each, they are gradually receiving it,many more have been trained in one skill or the other and assisted in setting up their own businesses .Most of us are wondering where is this governor is getting the money with which he is carrying out these programs and the man is only one year and six months in office. Indeed, the man has come to change the narrative and in doing that, he promised to carry people along so that all of us can collectively make Imo state a better place for all of us to leave in” He said.
He however, regrets that Imo some people has exbited laziness as a character, while emphasising that with the near collapse of the global economy, government can not be expected to do everything for the people, after paying workers salaries,pensions and contractors,adding that, the Imo people should look inwards, think for themselves. Government must not be the biggest employer of labour. That is why government is being run down. A lot of money is being spent paying people who do not contribute anything to government. I have served as a commissioner,you will see redundant civil servants doing nothing, earning salaries. Our civil service should wake up,help the government to reclaim the state” He affirmed.
As a seasoned politician and apex leader of the All Progressive Congress in Aboh Mbaise, it was gathered that, he gave his best to ensure a peaceful and successful ward Congress, attributing this however, to the peaceful disposition of the governor,adding: “Governor Uzodinma is a peaceful man and has imbibed in him a peaceful way of doing things, and that is why he is doing well as a leader of Aboh Mbaise APC.
Speaking on the just concluded APC ward Congress , He said,”the ward Congress went on well.You can not get any complaint in Aboh Mbaise. Leaders were consulted where necessary. We did even the revalidation of people before the Congress. The governor has also made it very clear he does not believe in camps,that everyone must get him or herself into APC.Today,there is nothing like Camphope or any other faction except APC as a political party” .
