State Governor Says Tinubu’s 20 Trucks Of Rice Yet To Arrive Since Mid-July
The Bola Tinubu-led government had on July 15, 2024 claimed it had donated about 20 trucks of rice to each of Nigeria’s 36 states and Abuja as part of measures to cushion the country’s food crisis.
Amid the looming #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest, the Adamawa State government has denied the receipt of food items said to have been distributed to states to cushion the effect of hardship in the country.
The Bola Tinubu-led government had on July 15, 2024 claimed it had donated about 20 trucks of rice to each of Nigeria’s 36 states and Abuja as part of measures to cushion the country’s food crisis.
The Information Minister, Mohammed Idris, had disclosed this in Abuja while briefing State House reporters at the end of the Federal Executive Council meeting.
However two weeks after the claim, the Adamawa State government swiftly denied receipt of the said 20 trucks of rice as disclosed by Idris.
At a press conference in Yola, the state capital on Monday, the commissioner of Information and Strategy, Iliya James, dismissed the claim, and instead, noted that a fraction of fertiliser aimed to boost the current wet season farming was received.
“The Adamawa State government is yet to receive the purported 20 trucks of food items allocated by the federal government to the state.
“However, the government of Adamawa State has been proactive in distributing relief food items to the people of Adamawa State overtime within the limit of its resources.
“The government also acknowledges the receipt in part of fertiliser allocated to Adamawa State and distribution of same is ongoing as they keep arriving together with the ones procured by the State government,” James said.
The government of Adamawa State while acknowledging the rights of Nigerians to a free, peaceful and lawful assembly, admonished the people of Adamawa State to avoid gatherings that could snowball into disastrous outings for miscreants to take advantage of and wreak havoc on the people leading to loss of lives and property.
