State Government Audit Report Uncovers N204million Unexplained Withdrawals by Council Areas
The report noted that in Bade Local Government, four departments withdrew N7.4million, while five departments under Bursari Local Government withdrew N26.9million.
A review of the 2023 audit report for local governments in Yobe State has revealed that a total of N204 million was withdrawn by various local governments without clear explanations for the expenditures or why the funds were spent.
The report noted that in Bade Local Government, four departments withdrew N7.4million, while five departments under Bursari Local Government withdrew N26.9million.
In Damaturu, four departments withdrew N38.5 million, and in Fika, five departments took out N7.5 million. Geidam recorded withdrawals of N3.4 million by three departments, while six departments in Gujba withdrew N37.7million.
In Gulani, three departments withdrew N1.6million, while in Jakusko, four departments withdrew N5.9million.
Karasuwa saw withdrawals of N1.9million by three departments, Machina recorded N2.8million from four departments, and Nangere had N2.6million withdrawn by another four departments.
Potiskum had five departments withdrawing N3.1million, Tarmuwa recorded N39million from four departments, and Yunusari saw six departments withdraw N25.9million.
In total, N204million was withdrawn by different departments across these local governments without explanations or supporting documentation.
According to the state audit report, “Withdrawals from the above-listed councils were observed to be unsupported by relevant expenditure details, despite repeated requests for explanations.”
Concerns about accountability in local governments persist across the country. In addition to the unaccounted N204million, another N991million was reportedly spent on various projects without clear evidence of value received.
The sum was spent across five local government areas in the state.
