Six People Arrested For Hiring, Using Sick Persons For Alms Begging In Anambra
The suspects were arrested on Wednesday evening during a raid on an uncompleted building at Isu village, Oba, where they were reportedly running the illicit operation.
Joint security operatives from the Oba Divisional Police Headquarters and the Anambra Vigilante group have arrested six suspects for allegedly hiring and using sick persons for street begging.

The suspects identified as Doris Basil (28), Peter Ezedike (38), Susan Monday (27), Ogechi Okoro (27), Solomon Sunday (29), and Kenneth Achi (29) were arrested at about 6:30 p.m.
According to a statement released by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operatives recovered six mobile phones and N82,400 in various denominations (N50, N100, and N200 notes).
Four visibly ill persons, believed to be suffering from conditions including brain tumours, breast cancer, and other terminal illnesses, were found in distress at the scene.
“The sick individuals were given immediate first aid and arrangements are underway for comprehensive medical attention and safe return to their families,” Ikenga said.
Ikenga stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, expressed deep concern over exploiting vulnerable individuals for personal gain.
He referenced Section 419 of the Nigerian Criminal Code, which criminalises obtaining property under false pretences. The act is a felony punishable by up to three years in prison.
According to the police spokesperson, CP Orutugu also directed that the relatives of the ailing individuals be interrogated to determine any level of involvement or negligence.
All suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation, Ikenga said.
