President Bola Tinubu on Monday sacked the Director-General (DG), Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Yusuf Bichi.

The removal sparked controversy with many wondering what would have prompted the president to remove Bichi.

Facts have now emerged on the reasons behind the removal of the security chief from office.

According to The Guardian, Tinubu was removing anyone causing stumbling blocks in the efforts of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, towards stamping out terrorists.

“Ribadu feels Bichi has been sabotaging his coordinating efforts to carry out the marching order given by the President to rid the country of terrorists and kidnappers,” a source told The Guardian, yesterday.

Adeola Ajayi Oluwatosin was appointed by Tinubu as the new DSS boss.

The President expects him to work for better results and charged him to bring his experiences to bear in tackling the security challenges bedeviling the country through enhanced collaboration with sister agencies and in surgical alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

DSS spokesman, Dr. Peter Afunanya, in a statement on Monday described the new DSS boss as a thoroughbred and versatile Intelligence Officer.

“Recruited into the Service in 1990 as a cadet officer, the new DG has received several trainings in diverse areas of management, security leadership, critical thinking, human resources among others from within and outside the country.

”He has also held many command positions including State Director of Security (SDS) at Rivers, Bayelsa, Bauchi, Enugu and Kogi States.

“Mr Ajayi is diligent, resilient, urbane, pro-active and analytic. He comes to his new position with experience, capacity and immense goodwill”, the statement read.
