Several people hospitalized after free unauthorized Medical Outreach for Residents
Several individuals have been hospitalised in different medical facilities after participating in a free healthcare outreach in Abiriba, located within the Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.
The event has raised concerns, with health officials suspecting that the hospitalizations may be due to adverse reactions to the medications administered during the outreach.
In a statement issued on Monday from Umuahia, the state capital, Abia State Commissioner for Health, Ogbonnaya Uche, expressed concern over the situation.
He confirmed that dedicated healthcare teams are working tirelessly to stabilize and treat the affected individuals.
Uche emphasised the Ministry of Health’s deep concern about the fallout from the unauthorised outreach, urging residents to exercise caution when engaging with organizers of unapproved healthcare events.
He clarified that the outreach had not been authorized by the ministry, stressing that organizers of similar future events without prior approval would face legal action.
The commissioner reiterated the state government’s commitment to safeguarding public health, urging potential collaborators in the healthcare sector to seek the ministry’s approval before organizing such events.
This, he explained, would ensure that all activities adhere to safety protocols and standards designed to protect the well-being of the public.
