Senator Ned Nwoko Breaks Silence On reasons for Dumping PDP For APC
Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has disclosed that his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was driven by a lack of support from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, which severely restricted his ability to serve effectively.
His defection stirred controversy, with Governor Oborevwori’s aide, Fred Oghenesivbe, alleging that Nwoko left the PDP out of fear of losing his party ticket for the 2027 elections.
However, in a statement on Monday, Nwoko dismissed the claims, clarifying that his decision was primarily due to opposition from PDP leaders regarding the creation of Anioma State.
“I left because I need the support of the ruling party to achieve the creation of Anioma State. The governor and Okowa, as PDP leaders, have opposed it. I sought backing from the PDP at the national level, but internal conflicts have left them unable to provide leadership,” Nwoko stated.
He further accused the governor of blocking his initiatives and failing to support key projects promised during the election campaigns, citing financial constraints.
“The governor ensured I couldn’t function. He dismissed all the projects we discussed during campaigns, claiming a lack of funds. The Okpai power plant and Ogwashi-Uku dam are clear examples. I wasn’t allowed to nominate board members, commissioners, or local government chairmen. I had to join the ruling party to attract development to my constituency—time is running out,” he added.
