Senate amends Orthopaedic hospitals management Act
The Senate on Wednesday passed the Orthopaedic Hospital Amendments Bill 2025, which seeks to amend the Act regulating the country’s specialised health facilities for musculoskeletal care.
Orthopaedic hospitals are specialised medical facilities focused on treating the musculoskeletal system, which plays a crucial role in various bodily functions.
The adoption of the bill followed the consideration of the report submitted by Senator Osita Ngwu (PDP-Enugu) on behalf of the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Senator Ipalibo Banigo.
The approval comes one month after the bill was passed for a third reading.
The bill, sponsored by Senator Shehu Buba, aims to amend the Orthopaedic Hospitals Management Board Act and establish a new orthopaedic hospital in Toro, Bauchi State.
In her explanation, Senator Banigo stated that the bill was designed to address orthopaedic disorders such as fractures, musculoskeletal conditions, and other related diseases that many Nigerians suffer from without adequate care.
