SDP Party Disowns ‘Alliance For Transformation’ Group, Affirms Support For 2023 Presidential Candidate Adebayo
In a statement released by the National Publicity Secretary of the SDP, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the party made it clear that the group is entirely unknown to its leadership and structure.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has distanced itself from a group identified as the Alliance for Transformation Mandate (ATM), which recently held a ‘World Press Conference’ claiming affiliation with the party and describing its members as “foot soldiers” for the SDP.
In a statement released by the National Publicity Secretary of the SDP, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the party made it clear that the group is entirely unknown to its leadership and structure.
The party described the alliance as an “obviously sponsored group” created to serve the personal agenda of its backers and declared that any pronouncements made by the group regarding the party or its leadership are baseless and unauthorised.
“The attention of the national leadership of our great party, the SDP, has been drawn to a ‘World Press Conference’ by a group by name, Alliance for Transformation Mandate (ATM), that described its members as ‘foot soldiers’ for the Social Democratic Party,” the statement read.
“The group is not known to the party, and therefore, whatever pronouncement they have made about any of the leaders of the party is of no moment and lacks authority.”
The SDP emphasised that, according to its constitution, only the National Chairman and the National Publicity Secretary are permitted to speak on behalf of the party on matters of public interest.
Reiterating the party’s stance on internal unity and discipline, the SDP reaffirmed its support for its 2023 presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo.
“The national leadership and the generality of SDP members reckon with the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Prince Adewole Adebayo, as the best candidate in the last election,” the statement noted.
The party added that Adebayo has “excellently represented the ideology of the party in all his outings during and after the 2023 election.”
The SDP therefore declared that it is not in any form of conflict with Prince Adebayo and issued a vote of confidence in his leadership and capacity.
The urged the public to disregard ATM and its statements, asserting that the SDP will continue to speak through the proper channels and not through fictitious or unauthorised groups.
