Russian Strikes Leave Large Parts Of Ukraine In Darkness, Damage Infrastructure Ahead Of Christmas

Ukraine has been hit by a massive Russian strike, leaving large parts of the country without power and causing severe damage to vital infrastructure.

Kyiv suffered significant power cuts, with underground metro services halted as people sought shelter.

 

Energy Minister German Galushchenko stated: “The enemy continues its terror.

Once again, the power sector throughout Ukraine is under massive attack.” Ukrenergo, Ukraine’s national power operator, warned that half the country would be without power amid freezing temperatures of minus 5°C.

 

Regions from Ivano-Frankivsk to Kharkiv experienced explosions, including hits on the Burshtyn Power Plant, an airbase in Chuguev, and port facilities in Odesa. Four people were injured in Kharkiv, and air raid alarms sounded nationwide.

 

Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky, condemned Russia’s actions, calling them part of Putin’s “peaceful plan to destroy everything.”

 

He emphasised the need for stronger global reactions, saying: “If leaders are afraid to react or get used to terror, Putin takes this as permission to continue.”
