Russia intercepts US-supplied missiles, captures Ukrainian village
Russia announced on Saturday that its air defence systems intercepted eight United States-supplied ATACMS missiles and 72 drones.
These missiles, known for their 300-kilometre range, were authorised for Ukrainian use by the outgoing US President, Joe Biden, last year, a decision the Kremlin described as a significant escalation.
The Russian Defense Ministry also reported capturing the village of Nadiia in Ukraine’s eastern Luhansk region, one of the few remaining areas under Kyiv’s control in that region.
“Air defence systems downed eight ATACMS US-made missiles and 72 drones,” the Russian Defense Ministry said, according to Moscow Times.
According to an analysis, Moscow gained approximately 4,000 square kilometres of territory in Ukraine over the past year, as Ukraine’s military faced challenges with manpower shortages and fatigue.
Civilians continue to be affected by the conflict, with both sides accusing each other of deadly strikes.
