RTD POLICE OFFICER TUNDE OGUNSAKIN SAGA AT EFCC AND UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA – YET ANOTHER REASON FOR FG TO PICK EFCC OUTSIDE POLICE
The director of operations at Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Tunde Ogunsakin, has been fired and asked to return to the police force.
Inside sources at the EFCC revealed to Saharareporters on Monday May 4 in Abuja that Mr Ogunsakin became the first major casualty in the protracted high stake internal power play between him and the Commission Chairman, Farida Waziri
Saharareporters learnt Mr. Ogunsakin, was asked to resign earlier today by the EFCC chairperson for reasons that weren’t disclosed to him, but the director of operations reportedly sent her an official memo requesting that he needed to see an official memo from the president directing him to leave the agency.
Recently, the director of operation was accused of engaging in examination malpractices at the University of Abuja where he is a current student at the faculty of law. He was accused of engaging another law student to write his semester exams on is behalf, a charge he denies through third parties.
Our sources said Mrs. Waziri and Attorney General Michael Aondoakaa met with Yar’adua over the weekend to intimate him about the decision to fire Ogunsakin from his job. Yar’adua reportedly told the duo to go and take care of the situation on their own. But Aondoakaa left Nigeria to Bamako today to avoid playing any direct role in the saga.
Femi Babafemi told Saharareporters that Mr Ogunsakin has been redeployed to the police, he said no official reason was given for the action.
The crisis of confidence between the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mrs Farida Waziri, and the agency’s former Director of Operations, Mr Tunde Ogunsakin, has entered a new phase as Ogunsakin is about to be charged to court by the commission on a six-count criminal charge.
Ogunshakin, who was redeployed to the police in 2009 when the new leadership of the anti-graft agency took over and has since been serving at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, was allegedly indicted for examination malpractice at the University of Abuja.
