Rivers Government reacts to misconduct allegations against Fubara, deputy
The Rivers State Government has reacted to accusations of misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, saying they have not received any official communication from the State House of Assembly regarding the allegations.
Joe Johnson, the Commissioner for Information, explained that the executive arm had not been formally informed about any claims of misconduct despite the Assembly’s public statements.
Johnson further pointed out that the governor had always shown a commitment to peace and followed court rulings, such as the Supreme Court’s order to transfer power from local government chairmen to appointed administrators.
The governor, he added, is also ready to act on other directives once the official court documents are received.
The Information Commissioner criticized the Assembly’s actions, including issuing ultimatums to the governor and the state electoral commission, calling them attempts to cause unrest.
He stated that legal experts had raised concerns about the legitimacy of the Assembly’s moves.
Johnson also took issue with the Assembly’s call for an investigation into the Chief Judge, accusing the lawmakers of prioritizing personal interests over the welfare of Rivers State residents.
Johnson emphasized that the government had made several attempts to communicate with the Assembly but had been ignored, citing video evidence of official documents being delivered to the lawmakers without acknowledgment.
Some of these documents, he noted, had been made public through national newspapers.
He argued that the Assembly’s refusal to receive these documents was a deliberate action to undermine the governor’s efforts.
