Portable drags Egungun of Lagos over Instagram name controversy
Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has taken aim at content creator Egungun of Lagos over questions surrounding his Instagram name, “Elizabeth Joyce.”
On Thursday, March 6, 2025, Portable posted a viral TikTok video clarifying his earlier remarks after Egungun asked him about the unusual name on his profile. The singer had initially claimed the account was a “working account,” but later revealed it was created when he attempted to learn internet fraud, commonly known as Yahoo Yahoo.
In his response, Portable explained that he abandoned the idea of engaging in cybercrime after gaining fame.
“To be honest with you, I created a Facebook and Instagram account when I wanted to learn Yahoo,” Portable admitted.
However, after facing backlash over the statement, he quickly backtracked, insisting the account was a legitimate platform for his music and a means of communicating with family members abroad.
He further explained that the name “Elizabeth Joyce” was inspired by a soap brand he uses.
“When I say my working account, I mean the account I use to make money. Egungun set me up—he put me in a Benz, turned on the camera, and started asking me questions. My account is legit. It’s what made me blow. I named it after the soap I use to bathe, and I also use it to chat with my people abroad. I have never done Yahoo before,” Portable stated.
Portable shot to fame in December 2021 with his breakout hit Zazuu Zeh, featuring Olamide and Poco Lee. However, his career has been overshadowed by a series of controversies.
In March 2023, he was arrested in Ogun State for allegedly leading an assault on police officers attempting to shut down his bar for operating without a permit. He was charged with five counts of assault and later granted bail of ₦2 million.
The singer has also been involved in violent altercations, including a public fallout with his former promoter, Kogbagidi, and an alleged assault on his former signee, DJ Chicken. In 2022, he sparked outrage after claiming to have founded the notorious cult groups Ajah Boys and One Million Boys, leading to a police summons. He later retracted the statement.
Portable has also clashed with several industry figures, including Davido, Small Doctor, and Burna Boy. In late 2023, he was caught on camera fighting security guards after being denied entry to an event where he was not scheduled to perform.
Despite his erratic behaviour and frequent controversies, Portable remains a polarizing figure in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, often making headlines for reasons beyond his music.
