Polytechnic Students Protest Against Lack Of Electricity, Water, Demand Withdrawal Of Arbitrary Fees

Rampaging students of the Adamawa State Polytechnic Yola (SPY) on Monday blocked the busy bank road in protest of lack of electricity, water, among other demands.

They barricaded the dual carriage way passing in front of the the main gate of the polytechnic, thus disrupting human and vehicular traffic along the busy way.
Apart from electricity and water which they said they had not had for more than one week, the students who wielded sticks and green leaves, also complained of lack of access to the management to table their complaints.
The students, who spoke on condition of anonymity, for fear of victimisation, said the SUG was outlawed by the management of the institution.
They, however, conducted themselves peacefully as damage was recorded or anyone hurt in the protest.
When contacted, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof Mohammed Toungos, said efforts were being made to address the concerns raised.
“As I speak with you, electricity has been restored and water is being pumped. Other demands will be looked into, as well,” he added.
