Yamu said the victims were rescued at different locations and on different days.

The statement read, “On 20/04/2025, operatives of the Igarra Area Command, Igueben Divisional Police Headquarters, Operation Rescue Teams with vigilantes and hunters in a coordinated but daring rescue operation, successfully rescued a total of six kidnapped victims.

“Regrettably, the team lost one vigilante, Ijeh Moses, as a result of a fatal gunshot injury sustained during a gun duel that ensued while one victim sustained injury but is currently responding to treatment.

“Some of the kidnappers were believed to have escaped with bullet wounds as traces of blood were seen on their escape route. Two of the victims were kidnapped on 19/04/2025 at about 18:30hrs along Udoneria-Ewatto road and four others were kidnapped on 20/04/2025 along a road leading to Udoeguare Community.”

According to Yamu, one of those who were abducted on 19/04/2025 along Ugbekpe-Agenebode road was rescued on 21/04/2025 in a joint rescue operation by operatives of the Agenebode Divisional Police Headquarters, Operation Rescue Teams and vigilantes/hunters.

The state Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, expressed unwavering commitment to tackle kidnapping and other related vices in the state.
