Petrol attendant escapes death after getting trapped in underground tank
A petrol attendant with a ConOil filling station at Capitol Road, Agege, Lagos, yesterday, escaped death after getting trapped in an underground storage tank.
The attendant was rescued by personnel of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA). The rescue came barely three weeks after the death of one Tajudeen Amololo, a 59- year-old sewer worker with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), who got trapped in an underground drainage in Onipanu, Lagos.
The unnamed attendant had been attempting to check the level of fuel in the tank when he accidentally fell in. Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the attendant was rescued through the quick intervention of the emergency responders.
He added that while rescuing the attendant, an officer of the Lagos State Fire Service Search and Rescue Service (LSFRS) who was involved also slipped and fell in, and was successfully rescued.
Officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) attended to the victims and stabilised them before they were moved to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
