Peter Obi reacts as court reinstates Abure as Labour Party national chairman
2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reacted to the court ruling affirming Julius Abure’s position as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
Following the Federal High Court’s decision in Abuja, which directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Abure’s leadership, Obi urged party members to remain calm and united.
The court, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, validated the outcomes of the March 2024 national convention that elected Abure and his executive team.
The ruling rejected claims that sought to challenge the legitimacy of Abure’s leadership, asserting that the Labour Party provided sufficient documentation to support its case.
Justice Nwite ordered INEC to acknowledge Abure’s leadership and to treat the party as a duly registered political entity in Nigeria, granting it all associated rights and privileges.
Reacting, Obi emphasized the importance of focusing on the pressing issues facing the nation and encouraged continued discussions within the party.
He acknowledged the challenges in creating a better Nigeria but expressed confidence in the Labour Party’s ability to emerge stronger from this situation.
He reassured members that their pursuit of a better Nigeria would persist despite the obstacles encountered along the way.
He said:
“Yesterday, Governor Alex Otti @alexottiofr and I, along with the Caretaker Chairman and Secretary of the Labour Party, convened to discuss and review recent developments, including the judgment delivered by an Abuja High Court on the same day.
“I urge all members of the Labour Party to remain calm and patient as we continue to engage in discussions and consultations.
“Our goal is to emerge stronger and more unified, standing together as one united front.
“We must not allow this to divert us from addressing the pressing issues affecting our people today.
“We have always known that the task of creating a new Nigeria that is possible will not come without challenges.”
