PDP Sacks Former Federal Commissioner, Nwosu Over Fraud Allegations
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Otolo Ward 1, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has expelled Samben Nwosu, a former Federal Commissioner with the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) and a senatorial aspirant for the upcoming Anambra South by-election.
The expulsion, confirmed in a letter titled “Letter of Expulsion From Our Great Party, PDP”, dated January 17, 2025, cited allegations of fraud and anti-party activities. The letter was signed by the ward’s PDP chairman and secretary, who instructed Nwosu to return all party property in his possession to the ward leadership immediately.
Nwosu’s expulsion follows his suspension and subsequent refusal to appear before a disciplinary committee established to investigate the allegations against him. The party claimed that Nwosu failed to defend himself against accusations of fostering disunity, engaging in fraudulent practices, and undermining party cohesion.
The disciplinary letter noted that Nwosu was invited to a hearing scheduled for January 13, 2025, after being served a suspension notice on December 30, 2024. However, instead of complying, he tendered a resignation letter dated January 6, 2025, in an apparent attempt to evade the disciplinary process.
PDP’s Allegations Against Nwosu
The PDP accused Nwosu of exploiting his membership for personal enrichment and deliberately creating disaffection within the party. The letter explicitly condemned his actions, stating:
“Your membership of our great party has been an avenue you use to enrich yourself at the expense of the party and its members.”
“Your stock in trade has been to promote disaffection among members to the detriment of the party.”
The party emphasized that his refusal to defend himself left them with no choice but to expel him, in line with Section (1) (g) of the PDP constitution.
Nwosu had been a leading contender for the Anambra South senatorial seat under the PDP platform before his expulsion. The seat became vacant following the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP’s decision to expel Nwosu highlights the party’s firm stance against activities that undermine its unity and integrity, especially ahead of the by-election.
With his expulsion, Nwosu’s political future within the PDP has been effectively terminated. However, the implications for his senatorial aspirations remain unclear, as he may seek an alternative platform to pursue his political ambitions.
Observers view this development as a significant test for the PDP’s internal discipline mechanisms, especially as the party navigates challenges in a politically charged state like Anambra.
