PDP NWC Nullifies Suspension of BoT Chairman, Senator Wabara
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially nullified the suspension of Senator Adolphus Wabara, the Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), which was reportedly imposed by the Abia State chapter of the party.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, emphasized that the suspension was “null, void, and of no effect whatsoever.” The NWC made it clear that the action was inconsistent with the party’s constitution and rules.
The NWC’s statement clarified that only the National Working Committee has the authority to take disciplinary actions against members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), such as Senator Wabara, and that no State Working Committee, including Abia State’s, has the power to suspend such members.
The party referred to Section 57(7) of the PDP Constitution, which explicitly prohibits any Executive Committee at the state level from entertaining disciplinary issues concerning NEC members, Deputy Governors, or National Assembly members.
The NWC condemned the suspension as both “reckless” and “unconstitutional,” asserting that the Abia State chapter had overstepped its bounds. Furthermore, the NWC called for those responsible for the action to reconsider their stance, warning that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken if necessary to preserve the integrity and stability of the party.
PDP leaders, stakeholders, and members in Abia State, as well as across the South-East zone and the nation, were urged to disregard the purported suspension and continue to uphold the party’s constitutional values.
This development marks a significant intervention by the national leadership of the PDP, reinforcing its authority and commitment to ensuring the proper adherence to party regulations.
