PDP lost 2023 elections due to embezzlement, says chairman
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Abia State, Abraham Amah has explained why the party lost the 2023 general elections in the state.
Amah identified fielding wrong candidates and embezzlement of election funds by party members as major reasons for PDP defeat.
He spoke at Abia North stakeholders and reconciliation meeting held at Abam, Arochukwu Local Government Area of the state.
“We know why we lost the election. We lost because of several reasons: party against the party, the Peter Obi wave, wrong candidates, and collecting party money and running away with it.”
“We have done our synopsis at the level of the state working committee of the five LGAs. There are truths we must tell ourselves – in some LGAs, the APC, PDP and the LP have eaten deep, but I want to assure you that the situation is not bad to the extent that we cannot recover our party. This time, we will recover the party,” he said.
Amah stated that the 2023 election was one of the biggest lessons that had happened to the PDP in the state.
“If we did not lose that election, a lot of us wouldn’t have a say today. We are speaking today because we lost that election. If we had not lost that election, some people would not have allowed others to sit at the table
“As a party, being out of government has taught us a lesson, we have known that indeed, failure is an orphan and that success is a favourite of everybody.
Amah assured members of the party that PDP would reclaim the state in the 2027 general election, pleading with them to unite and forget their differencies.
“A mistake was made, I come here as a party chairman to appeal to every one of us, let us forgive ourselves and move forward. I assure you we are going to win back power by the grace of God.”
