The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum has recommended that the Deputy National Secretary, Setonji Koshoedo, temporarily assume the duties of the National Secretary to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operations within the party.

This interim arrangement is expected to remain in place until a substantive National Secretary is appointed and officially ratified from the South East zone, in line with the PDP’s zoning formula.

Addressing the issue of political alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Forum made it clear that the party is not considering any coalition or alliance at this stage.

On the future of the party, the governors resolved to work closely with the National Working Committee and other organs of the party to convene a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on May 27, 2025.

An early national convention has also been scheduled to take place in Kano from August 28 to 30, 2025.

The Forum also raised concern over the political unrest in Rivers State and condemned the alleged declaration of a state of emergency.

It vowed to resist any move that could undermine constitutional democracy and pledged full support to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

“We restate our solidarity with His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on the ordeal into which his state and people are being plunged by the declaration of a state of emergency. And we reiterate our commitment to stand with him till the end,” the communiqué read.
